VoLTE (Voice over LTE) technology takes the mobile calling experience to the next level, offering better sound quality, faster connection of mobile calls and simultaneous use of voice and GB.
By activating the VoLTE technology on your device, you can enjoy:
• A faster connection of mobile calls. VoLTE calls are often connected up to twice as fast than traditional voice calls.
• Vastly improved sound quality on calls using full high definition technology (EVS - Enhanced Voice Services) compared to the standard high definition offered now.
• Simultaneous use of voice and data during a call. VoLTE technology allows data traffic through the high speed 4G/4.5G Epic network, enabling a multitasking experience on mobile.
The service is offered free of charge by Epic to its subscribers. The latest firmware update on the device is required for the activation of VoLTE.
Note: Starting from February 2026, Epic will begin phasing out 3G technology on its network. The spectrum freed up by the phase-out of 3G will be used to further strengthen and expand next-generation networks (4G and 5G). Learn more in the relevant section of the page and in the Frequently Asked Questions below.
Important note: Please make sure the device software is updated with the latest release.
(When updating the software it’s recommended to use WiFi connection in order not to consume your data balance)
Most newer Apple and Android devices support VoLTE and have it enabled by default.
On older models, users may need to manually enable VoLTE through their device’s network or mobile settings, as outlined below:
1. Go to Settings > Mobile network > Mobile data.
2. Turn on the 'VoLTE calls' switch as shown on the picture:

3. When successfully registered in VoLTE, the VoLTE or HD icon will be shown on the top of the screen.
Epic network supports most of the devices of the major vendors Huawei, Samsung, Xiaomi, Apple, Nokia; you can find all the compatible VoLTE devices here
As part of our ongoing service upgrades, we are gradually deactivating the 3G network across Cyprus. The process will begin in February 2026 and is expected to be completed in early summer.
Why is 3G being phased out?
3G was the technology that first gave us access to the internet in the 2000s (for simple uses such as email and surfing). However, due to the rapid developments of technology, it can no longer support today's needs for high speeds and modern internet use.
Your communication is now served by 4G and 5G networks, which offer higher internet speeds and upgraded voice quality through VoLTE technology.
The benefit for you
The spectrum freed up by the discontinuation of 3G will be used to further strengthen and expand next-generation networks (4G and 5G). This means:
What about calls and SMS?
The discontinuation of 3G does not affect voice and SMS services. These will continue to be provided as normal:
How to Ensure the Best Experience
To continue enjoying fast Internet access and high voice quality, make sure your device supports 4G and VoLTE:
See detailed instructions for enabling VoLTE here: VoLTE info
If your device is not compatible with 4G and VoLTE, we recommend replacing it with a new 4G VoLTE or 5G device for a better experience.Visit an Epic store today so we can help you choose the right device and ensure seamless communication! Find the nearest Epic store here.
Note: Your services will continue to be supported via the 2G network for basic calls and SMS, but internet access will be limited.
VoLTE is the Voice over LTE service. Voice calls are now served over the 4G network.
• Better voice quality
• Using high speed data during phone calls
• Shorter call setup time
There are no additional charges for VoLTE. All the Voice and Data usage is as per existing contract.
There is no mobile data consumption from your monthly balance for VoLTE.
When connected to Wifi the data usage is via WiFi. The Voice Calls on devices with VoLTE enabled are served via IMS APN on the VoLTE network.
When the Mobile Data is switched off on the device, the browsing is disabled.
VoLTE service is still ON.
VoLTE Roaming is currently available in specific countries and with partner networks. You can use it in the Greece (with Cosmote ,Vodafone and Nova), the Spain (with Telefónica Móviles España), the UK (with 3UK and EE), the France (with Free Mobile) the Austria (with T-Mobile), the Slovakia (with Slovak Telecom and O2), the Czech Republic (with T-Mobile and O2), the Sweden (with Tele2 AB), the Lithouania (with UAB Tele2), the Latvia (with Tele2 SIA) the Estonia (with Tele2 Eesti Aktsiaselts) the Denmark (with HI3G ) the Tailand (with AIS Tailand), the Israel (with Pelephone Communication) and USA (with Verizon).
Yes, VoLTE users can call everywhere.
Yes, when there is no 4G coverage, the VoLTE users are served from the 2G/3G network.
Currently the Multi-SIM service is not provided with VoLTE. It will be enabled in the coming months.
In order to provide our epic service quality level, any device using epic VoLTE service should be certified. We are in the process of certifying more and more devices with different vendors. Updates are published on epic web site.
User should have a VoLTE certified device.
User should have VoLTE service provisioned.
VoLTE should be switched ON from the device settings.
VoLTE can be switched OFF from the device settings.
Using VoLTE, the phone is always connected to the 4G network and due to the high speed data more battery power is required. However, the networks and the mobile devices are being optimised to address this power consumption need.
Please make sure the device software is updated with the last release. When updating the software it’s recommended to use WiFi connection in order not to consume your data balance.

3G is the third generation of mobile networks, which was introduced in the 2000s and provided internet access for basic uses such as sending photos, email and web browsing.
In recent years, the 3G network has been used only for calls and SMS, as it is unable to support today’s mobile internet usage needs.
By discontinuing 3G, we free up the spectrum used by the 3G network and invest in next-generation networks, 4G and 5G, as well as new technologies such as VoLTE, in order to deliver the best possible experience to our subscribers and support the development of new services.
The gradual shutdown of the 3G network will begin in February 2026, with the goal of being completed before summer 2026. This means that: .
1. If you have a 4G device and have enabled VoLTE technology (see here how to enable VoLTE [link]), you will not be affected by the change.
2. If you have a 3G device and want to maintain the same or a better user experience, you will need to replace it with a new 4G device. Otherwise, you will still be able to use it for voice and messaging services via the 2G network, without mobile internet capabilities.
3.If you have a 2G device and you are satisfied with your current service experience, no change is required.
To enjoy the best possible mobile internet experience on our network, we recommend upgrading to a modern 4G VoLTE device because:
1. Your experience will improve significantly, as Epic’s 4G / 5G network offers much higher average speeds than the 3G network.
2. You will also upgrade your voice service experience through VoLTE technology.
3. You will be able to use voice and internet services simultaneously.
The discontinuation of the 3G network will not result in any changes to service charges.
Epic’s 4G network provides nationwide coverage, specifically 99.55% geographic coverage and 99.98% population coverage, which is the highest among all technologies.
No, it will not be affected at all. Voice and messaging services via the 2G network will remain unchanged.
After the discontinuation of the 3G network, your 3G device will not stop working. You will continue to have roughly the same voice and SMS experience via the 2G network. If you want to use mobile internet on your phone, we recommend replacing your device with a new 4G VoLTE device, which will also improve voice quality.
No. There is now a wide variety of devices available, with options to suit every need and budget.
You can purchase a 4G VoLTE device from an Epic store, one of its partners or from Epic’s eStore. See the available devices here. The device may also be purchased from any other physical or online store, provided that the store confirms support for VoLTE technology.
The discontinuation of 3G applies only to usage within Cyprus. However, 3G has already been phased out in many countries abroad. Therefore, we recommend replacing your 3G device with a new 4G VoLTE device to enjoy the best possible user experience both in Cyprus and internationally.
