Epic is one of the largest telecommunication providers in Cyprus. It provides integrated mobile and fixed telephony, internet and pay-TV services as well as specialized ICT solutions for businesses. At the same time, the company also has its own network of sales points, operating 19 stores all over Cyprus with technology products, accessories and telecommunication solutions. The company employs over 300 professionals, all with vast knowledge and expertise in the field of telecommunications and technology.
By offering a great network at great value, in 2019 the company has proceeded with the implementation of a large investment for a new, super-fast network with 10 times more capacity compared to the past.
Epic belongs to Monaco Telecom, the Principality of Monaco provider and is a member of a dynamic European telecoms family which comprises telecom providers operating in the UK, France, Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, Poland, Liechtenstein, Monaco and Malta.
Important Milestones
2004
The company commenced its operations in the Cypriot market in July 2004 as Areeba, after acquiring the second mobile telephony license by the Cyprus Government.
2007
In September 2007 the company was rebranded as MTN after the parent company (Investcom LLC) was purchased by the international group of companies MTN Group.
2008
In October 2008, the partnership between the MTN Group and Amaracos Holdings (owned by the Shacolas Group of Companies and Panos Germanos) comes into effect. With this partnership Amaracos acquires 49% of MTN Cyprus' stock. With this move, MTN Cyprus acquires 100% of Infotel Ltd (Germanos chain of stores) as well as Otenet (Cyprus) Ltd, a fixed telephony and internet provider. The Amaracos Holdings share was later increased to 50%, which it held until 2013.
2009
In 2009, MTN Cyprus signed a €20 million contract with Huawei Technologies Co Ltd for the upgrade of its network. Through this upgrade, which was completed in 2010, MTN strengthened its position in the market, providing faster speeds and a larger network capacity, improved voice call quality as well as a wider geographical and population coverage.
2013
In February 2013, the MTN Group announced an agreement with Amaracos Holdings for acquiring the remaining 50% of the share capital of MTN Cyprus. As a result of this, the MTN Group was now in possession of 100% of MTN Cyprus.
2015
In March 2015, MTN was the first to introduce the 4G network in Cyprus, offering its subscribers the fastest speeds in the market.
2017
In May 2017, MTN introduced its subscriber TV service, MTN TV.
2018
In September 2018, Monaco Telecom acquired the entire share capital of MTN Cyprus. Monaco Telecom is the incumbent operator of the Principality of Monaco and a member of NJJ Holding.
In November 2018, MTN began offering a wider 4.5G coverage to its subscribers.
2019
In May 2019, MTN announced that all its subscribers are able to communicate with crystal clear sound through HD Voice technology.
In June 2019, MTN rebranded to epic, launching a new and exciting era in the Cypriot field of telecommunications and offering a state-of-the-art network in combination with real value - "Great network. Great value".
2020
In June 2020 Epic was awarded the Best Mobile Network in Test certification by the globally recognized network measurements and testing company, umlaut and according to the overall score, Epic ranked as the #1 mobile network in Cyprus.
In July 2020, Epic was awarded another important distinction, this time as the Fastest Mobile Network, by the internationally-renowned organization for internet performance testing and analysis Ookla. This was the first time a mobile network in Cyprus was awarded simultaneously by two reputable organizations.
In October 2020, the globally recognized network measurements and testing company, umlaut, which in May 2020 had ranked Epic as the #1 mobile network in Cyprus, placed Epic at the top again in all categories and subcategories after a revised evaluation covering the period from early May to the end of October 2020.
2021
In January 2021 Epic was recognized as the Fastest Mobile Network in Cyprus for the 2nd time in a row by the global internet performance testing and analysis organization, Ookla. According to the results, Epic achieved the highest Speed Score™ for the period from early July to end of December 2020.
At the same time, the global independent network measurements and testing company umlaut placed Epic at the top among all domestic mobile networks, securing once again the title of the Best Mobile Network in Test for the evaluation conducted from the end of July 2020 to the beginning of January 2021. Epic’s network ranked at the top in three core categories: Coverage, Speed, and Latency.
In July 2021, Epic’s leading position was once again sealed, following a newly revised evaluation by umlaut, for the period covering mid-January to the end of June. Achieving the highest score the organization ever received for its network (936/1000), Epic maintained its position as the # 1 mobile network in test in Cyprus. During the new evaluation, Epic secured the highest score in all three major categories Broadband Coverage, Download Speed, and Latency bringing the customer experience to a higher level.
2022
In February 2022, Epicwas awarded once more the Best Mobile Network in Test certification by the global independent testing company umlaut. This award, the third in a row, maintained Epic as the #1 mobile network in test in Cyprus and proved the reliability and stability of its network. The award was given to Epic based on independent mobile networks benchmark in Cyprus, conducted by umlaut with drive test measurements from 9/12/2021 until 17/12/2021, and crowd-based assessment with data collected from 2/8/21 until 16/1/22.
2023
In November 2023, the global organization for internet performance testing and analysis Ookla honoured Epic with a notable distinction. Based on Ookla Speedtest® results, Epic was awarded the Fastest Fixed Internet Network in Cyprus with distinction. Hundreds of thousands of user-initiated tests across Cyprus for the Q2-Q3 2023 period were performed, testing all fixed providers in Cyprus with Epic achieving the highest speed score.
2024
In August 2024, Epic returned with a new double achievement. Ookla, the internationally recognized organization for internet measurements and analysis, named Epic the Fastest Fixed Internet Network in Cyprus for the second consecutive year according to the Speedtest® results for Q1-Q2 of 2024. At the same time, the independent benchmarking organization umlaut, after evaluating the period from November 2023 to April 2024, ranked Epic in the first place among the domestic mobile networks as it received the highest overall score, certifying it as the Best Mobile Network in Cyprus.
Additionally, in June 2024 Epic demonstrated the high level of service it offers to its customers by winning six awards at the Customer Excellence Awards 2023. Specifically, Epic received the following awards: GOLD Best Contact Centre, GOLD Best Customer Service Initiative B2C, GOLD Best Use of Customer Feedback & Insights, GOLD Best Customer Service Learning & Development, GOLD Best Customer Experience Measurement, BRONZE Best Customer Experience Strategy.
2025
